The UC Davis GE Scholars Program General Education (GE) theme options are an alternative approach to meeting the university's GE requirement. Each theme is composed of courses that share a common area of study. The themes allow many students to fulfill their GE requirements while focusing on a particular topic. GE Scholars is a certificate program that exists as an extension to the GE theme option. Upon completion of at least three courses from a particular GE theme option, GE Scholar students participate in an integrative learning experience. Upon completion of the learning experience, students are awarded a certificate which recognizes them as a GE Scholar. (Transcript notation may also be an option.) Presently four theme options have been developed by faculty in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Students whose major topical breadth area is assigned to the Social Sciences or Science/Engineering may need to complete additional GE courses in Arts and Humanities to satisfy the GE requirement.
